ATTENTION RESEARCHERS AND ACADEMICS: This Global Opportunity is Open to Nigerians
Call for Papers — Women in Leadership: Accelerating Development Outcomes
Deadline: 7 June 2026
If you are a researcher, academic, PhD student, or policy professional working on issues of gender, leadership, governance, or economic development — this is a call you cannot afford to miss.
Some of the most powerful institutions in the world are joining forces to host a landmark global conference, and they are actively looking for voices from developing countries like Nigeria.
What Is This Opportunity?
The Women in Leadership: Accelerating Development Outcomes conference is a two-day global academic and policy convening happening on 10–11 September 2026 at the London School of Economics (LSE), London. The event is also available as a hybrid conference, meaning you can participate online from Nigeria if you cannot travel.
The conference is being organised by the World Bank Gender Department, the Gates Foundation, and LSE's Hub for Equal Representation in the Economy (H.E.R.), in partnership with leading institutions across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Arab world — including the African Center for Economic Transformation.
This is not a minor event. This is a first-of-its-kind global gathering designed to build the evidence base on how women's leadership shapes development — and what works to advance it.
Who Is It For?
The conference invites submissions of research on women's leadership and its impact on development outcomes, covering causal evidence on policies and interventions that advance women's leadership, as well as research examining the effects of women's leadership on governance, economic performance, service delivery, and organisational outcomes.
This is for:
-Academic researchers and university lecturers
-PhD students and postdoctoral scholars
-Policy researchers and think tank professionals
-Development economists and social scientists
-Anyone conducting evidence-based research on gender and leadership
Are Nigerians Eligible? YES.
Early-career researchers and those based in developing countries are strongly encouraged to apply. Nigeria is a developing country. Nigerian researchers are not just eligible — they are specifically being sought out. Submissions with a strong emphasis on developing country contexts and early career scholars are particularly encouraged. This means research on Nigerian women in business, governance, or community leadership is directly relevant and welcome.
What Research Topics Are They Looking For?
The conference has three thematic areas that will guide its structure: women's leadership and governance outcomes; policies and interventions that expand women's leadership; and the impact of women's leadership on economic and organisational performance.
In plain terms, they want research that answers questions like:
-What barriers stop women from leading in business and government?
-Which policies and programmes have actually worked to increase women's leadership?
-What happens to communities, organisations, and economies when women lead?
-If your research touches any of these areas — whether in northern Nigeria, across the country, or the African continent — this is your stage.
Key Deadlines
-Paper submission deadline: Sunday, 7 June 2026
-Notification of acceptance: 5 July 2026
-Conference dates: 10–11 September 2026
What Do You Submit?
You can submit an extended abstract of a maximum of 500 words, or a full paper.
