CJID/UNESCO Storytelling Fellowship for Environmental Journalists in West Africa 2026

CJID/UNESCO Storytelling Fellowship for Environmental Journalists in West Africa 2026

Fellowships & Capacity Building | Deadline: June 8, 2026

If you are a journalist in West Africa with a passion for environmental reporting, here is an opportunity you cannot afford to miss. The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), in partnership with the UNESCO Global Media Defence Fund (GMDF), is inviting environmental journalists to apply for a six-month investigative storytelling fellowship.

About the Programme

The fellowship is designed to strengthen investigative journalism, enhance media safety awareness, and support compelling storytelling focused on violence and threats against environmental journalists in the region.

Environmental journalists across West Africa face growing dangers for simply doing their job — exposing ecological threats, holding polluters accountable, and speaking truth on environmental injustice. This fellowship is a direct response to that reality.

The programme objectives are to:

provide training and mentorship for journalists who report on attacks against environmental journalists, strengthen capacity for investigative reporting, produce and publish stories on violence against environmental reporters, and disseminate work in line with international standards.

Eligibility

Who Should Apply?

The fellowship is open to professional journalists currently resident in Ghana, Liberia, The Gambia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. Freelance/independent and female journalists are strongly encouraged to apply.

Country Eligibility: Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, The Gambia

Selection Process

Applications will undergo a thorough review with shortlisted candidates proceeding to the next stage. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Fully Funded: Apply to Join the COP17 Youth Delegation in Yerevan, Armenia | GYBN 2026

Fully Funded: Apply to Join the COP17 Youth Delegation in Yerevan, Armenia | GYBN 2026

If you are a young person passionate about the environment, biodiversity, and making your voice heard on the global stage — this is your moment.

The Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) is calling for applications from young people worldwide to join the international Youth Delegation to COP17 — the 17th Meeting of the Conference of Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), taking place in Yerevan, Armenia.  (Contest360) And the best part? It is fully funded.

What Is COP17?

In October 2026, Armenia will host the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) — a landmark event that will place Armenia at the centre of global biodiversity diplomacy and highlight its unique role as a Caucasus biodiversity hotspot.

The COP17 conference will bring together representatives of nearly 200 countries, along with international organizations, scientists, indigenous groups, civil society, and youth advocates. The event is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted in 2022.

In short: COP17 is one of the most important environmental gatherings on the planet — and GYBN is opening the door for young people to be right in the middle of it.

Who Is GYBN?

The Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) serves as the official coordination platform for youth participation in processes related to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). It works to strengthen meaningful youth engagement in biodiversity policy, advocacy, and implementation efforts at local, national, and international levels.

Through this delegation, selected participants will join the international youth delegation to COP17, contribute to global biodiversity discussions, and strengthen youth participation in the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).

What Will You Gain?

-This is not just a conference trip — it is a career-defining experience. As a selected delegate, you will:

-Engage directly in international biodiversity negotiations and policy discussions

-Network with youth leaders from around the world and strengthen advocacy, campaigning, and lobbying skills

-Build knowledge of the CBD process, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), and National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs)

-Participate in capacity-building and preparatory activities before COP17

-Access accreditation to observe and contribute to UN-level negotiations

What Does the Funding Cover?

-Subject to funding confirmation, selected participants may receive support covering accommodation, food expenses, local transportation, visa costs, and accreditation for COP17 participation.

-GYBN is currently in an advanced stage of fundraising, and this call is designed to pre-select candidates so that preparation, visa processes, and planning can begin early.

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility)

Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years of age on October 14, 2026, demonstrate a strong commitment to biodiversity-related issues, possess at least a basic understanding of international negotiations, and be willing to actively participate in preparation activities before COP17. Applications must be submitted in English.

-Country/Regional Eligibility: This opportunity is open to young people worldwide. There are no country restrictions — applicants from Nigeria, Africa, and across the globe are eligible to apply.

Here is a full timeline of the programme:

-Application Deadline: June 30, 2026 (11:59 PM UTC)

File names should follow the format: LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_CV.pdf and LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_ID.pdf

This application is only for candidates seeking both funding and accreditation from GYBN for in-person participation. A separate application process will be announced for self-funded participants seeking accreditation only. A Word to Young Nigerians and African Youth

The world table is being set, and African voices need to be at it. Biodiversity loss is not an abstract global issue — it is happening in our forests, rivers, and farmlands. If you have been working on environmental causes, advocacy, or community development, this is your opportunity to take that work to the highest level of international dialogue.

Apply. Your voice belongs in that room.

Organised by: Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) | Supported by: IKI, GIZ, WWF, UN Environment Programme, and the Federal Ministry for the Environment of Germany

The Global Good Fund Fellowship 2027 — Applications Now Open for Social Entrepreneurs Worldwide

The Global Good Fund Fellowship 2027 — Applications Now Open for Social Entrepreneurs Worldwide

If you are a social entrepreneur running a business that is solving real problems in your community, this is your moment. The Global Good Fund has officially opened applications for its 2027 Fellowship Programme — a leadership development initiative designed to support social entrepreneurs who are driving measurable impact within their communities.

What Is the Global Good Fund Fellowship?

The Global Good Fund Fellowship is a 12-month hybrid leadership programme for social entrepreneurs around the world. It accelerates leaders who relentlessly tackle the most pressing social issues to create a more sustainable and just future for all. Each Fellow receives professional executive coaching, C-suite business mentorship, $10,000 to spend exclusively on their leadership development, customised tools, resources, training, and networking opportunities to scale their social impact.

Each Fellow is paired with a dedicated professional executive coach and a C-suite business executive who serves as a mentor.   Think of it as having a personal boardroom in your corner for an entire year.

Who Is It For?

The Global Good Fund Fellowship is for innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders of for-profit and non-profit social impact organisations. This programme is for emerging leaders and entrepreneurs with diverse ethnic, religious, economic, geographic, and gender experiences.

The programme is structured to identify high-potential changemakers operating across sectors such as financial inclusion, education, environment, health, and economic mobility, while remaining open to other areas demonstrating strong social impact and systemic change potential.

Eligibility

-Country/Region Eligibility: The Global Good Fund Fellowship is open to social enterprise leaders based anywhere in the world who are trying to make the world a better place through business. Nigeria and all of Africa qualify.

To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

-The enterprise that the candidate leads is at least two years old.

-The enterprise must have at least one full-time employee in addition to the candidate.

-The applicant must be committed full-time to running the enterprise.

-The applicant must be in a position where they have primary decision-making authority.

-The enterprise has developed an effective business model and is therefore well positioned — or can provide evidence of high potential — to scale in the long term.

-Applicants should not be currently receiving formal coaching or mentoring support. If applying for other fellowships within the same cycle, this must be disclosed in the application.

-Good news for early-stage founders: While the flagship Fellowship Programme requires the enterprise to be at least two years old, earlier-stage leaders are still welcome to apply, as submitting an application allows the team to evaluate your profile for other potential programmatic opportunities across the ecosystem.

What Does the Application Look Like?

-The application includes a series of short-answer questions to assess alignment with fellowship criteria (approximately 30 minutes to complete) and a mandatory video submission where you share your story.

-Co-founders are encouraged to apply, however their applications will be considered separately, as the programme focuses on supporting the leadership development of an individual, not of the organisation.

-As long as you are able to communicate and hold a business conversation in English, you are absolutely encouraged to apply. Fellows come from all over the world, and a high percentage have not had any formal training in the English language.

Application Timeline

The selection follows a multi-phase process:

Phase 1 — Initial Application & Eligibility Screening: June 1 – June 30, 2026

Phase 2 — Detailed Questionnaire: July 10 – August 11, 2026

Phase 3 — Virtual Interview with Selection Committee: September 8 – October 24, 2026

Final Selection Announcement: By November 30, 2026

The Phase 1 deadline is June 30, 2026. Do not wait.
