If you've been looking for a platform that puts your voice directly into youth policy and advocacy across Africa, this one is worth your attention. Y-ACT (Youth in Action), an initiative of Amref Health Africa, has opened applications for its Regional Youth Steering Committee (YSC) 3.0, covering the 2026–2028 term.

What Is the Y-ACT Youth Steering Committee?

The YSC is a strategic advisory body that guides how Y-ACT engages, partners, and advocates with and for young people across Sub-Saharan Africa and the diaspora. It's not a training programme or a fellowship — it's a governance and advisory role. Members sit at the table where Y-ACT's programmes, partnerships, and advocacy priorities are shaped, and they help ensure the organisation stays accountable to genuine youth engagement rather than just paying lip service to it.

As a member, you'll be expected to:

-Provide strategic input into Y-ACT's priorities, programmes, and partnerships

-Advise on youth-focused initiatives and opportunities to expand impact

-Contribute to regional and global engagements, consultations, and advocacy platforms

-Support knowledge development through thought pieces, reports, and policy inputs

-Represent youth perspectives and promote accountability in Y-ACT's youth engagement approach

Who Can Apply?

Eligibility criteria:

-Aged 18–35 years at the time of application

-Have proven experience in youth engagement, advocacy, policy, or development initiatives

-Demonstrate a strong understanding of youth-related issues at the national, regional, or continental level

-Able to commit to active participation, collaboration, and defined deliverables

-Country/region eligibility: Open to youth across Sub-Saharan Africa and the Diaspora. Six members will be selected in total, representing Africa's five subregions — North, West, Central, East, and Southern Africa — plus the diaspora. So this is genuinely continent-wide, and Nigerian applicants (representing West Africa) are fully eligible. Strong emphasis is placed on gender balance, diversity, and inclusion.

Tenure and Selection

Members serve a two-year term, which includes a six-month probationary period.

Selection is competitive: open applications, followed by shortlisting and interviews based on experience, strategic thinking, and alignment with Y-ACT's values. Final selection considers regional representation, diversity, and collective expertise.
