The Millennium Fellowship Class of 2026 Is Still Open — But You Need to Apply Before May 15
If you are an undergraduate student with a fire in your belly for social change, this is the opportunity you have been waiting for. The Millennium Fellowship Class of 2026 is currently accepting applications, and the deadline has been extended — which means you still have a window to get in.
Here is everything you need to know.
What Is the Millennium Fellowship?
The Millennium Fellowship is a semester-long leadership development program that happens on your campus, jointly presented by the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) and the Millennium Campus Network (MCN).
It is not a scholarship that takes you abroad. It is a structured programme that runs right where you are — on your university campus — and it equips you to design and execute a real social impact project tied to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Throughout the programme, Fellows undertake a project that addresses one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, applying what they learn in real time to create tangible social impact.
What Do You Actually Get?
This is not just a certificate to add to your CV, though you do get that too. Here is what being a Millennium Fellow actually gives you:
World-class leadership training, access to a global network of changemakers, recognition from UN Academic Impact and MCN, and support to implement a social impact project.
A certificate of recognition from United Nations Academic Impact and Millennium Campus Network upon completing the programme and meeting your graduation requirements.
Structured training, global networking, and hands-on project experience that empowers students to become effective changemakers within their communities and beyond.
And perhaps most importantly — it is completely free. The programme is free for accepted applicants. There are no fees or charges for students and universities.
How Big Is This Programme?
Bigger than you probably think. In 2025, 4,500+ Millennium Fellows collectively advanced all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, contributed 389,000+ hours to 2,550 unique projects, and positively impacted the lives of over 1.2 million people in 47 nations. Over 60,000 young leaders on 7,500+ campuses across 160+ nations applied to join the Class of 2025.
That is the scale of the community you would be joining.
Who Is This For?
The Millennium Fellowship is open to undergraduate students who demonstrate a strong commitment to social impact. You must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at a recognised institution, demonstrate interest or involvement in social impact, leadership, or community development, show commitment to advancing one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals, and be willing to actively participate in a campus-based cohort for the duration of the programme
You must also be at least 18 years old by the start of the programme and enrolled as an undergraduate for the entire duration — August through November 2026. (Opportunities for Youth)
Students who are graduating before November 30, 2026 are not eligible.
What Will You Do as a Fellow?
When you apply, you are asked to submit your Millennium Fellowship Project. Whatever your project is, it must be time-bound — something you can make meaningful, measurable impact on during the Fellowship (August–December 2026) — and it must advance at least one Sustainable Development Goal and one UNAI principle.
This could be leading a campus organisation, launching a sustainability initiative, running a community health programme, or anything else that drives real change. The point is that it must be yours — your vision, your leadership, your impact.
Fellows make a commitment to meet in-person at least eight times during the programme with their Campus Directors and other Fellows to share best practices and take collective action.
Is It Competitive?
Yes. Only 4% of campuses were selected as campus hubs for the Fellowship in 2025.
That tells you two things: the bar is high, and the recognition that comes with being selected is real. Apply early, write clearly about your project idea, and make sure your references reflect your capacity and commitment.
Deadlines You Must Know
The Final Extended Deadline for Round 1 is Thursday, May 7th, 2026, and Round 2 is Friday, May 15th, 2026.
That means right now — today — is the time to move. Do not wait until the last hour.
