ALC Associate Fellowship in Peace, Security & Development for African Students — Apply Before May 24, 2026

If you are an African student passionate about leadership, peacebuilding, and development, here is an opportunity you cannot afford to miss. The African Leadership Centre (ALC) is calling for applications for its Associate Fellowship Bursary for African Students in Peace, Security and Development (Degree Awarding) for the 2026/27 academic year.

About the African Leadership Centre

Established in 2010, the African Leadership Centre (ALC) seeks to build an inter-generational community of transformative leaders producing cutting-edge knowledge that serves as a catalyst for a new peace, security and development agenda in Africa.

The Centre operates from two bases — Nairobi, Kenya and King's College London — and its work spans academic research, policy advocacy, and hands-on leadership training.

What Is the Associate Fellowship Bursary?

This associate fellowship bursary is available to African students applying for the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding at King's College London, for the 2026/27 academic year (beginning in September 2026). It is available to students studying full-time only, and is open to young Africans who are pursuing careers in leadership, security, and development.

The programme integrates academic research with mentorship, simulation exercises, peer-to-peer mentoring, and practical experience at African institutions. Upon completion, associate fellows have the opportunity to participate in a paid 6-month attachment at an African university or regional organization.

What Do You Get?

Successful applicants will receive a 25% tuition fee reduction plus a £5,000 living stipend, as well as access to ALC's global network of peace and security leaders.

Who Is This For?

This fellowship is designed for:

-African students applying for or planning to apply for the MSc in Global Leadership and Peacebuilding at King's College London

-Young Africans pursuing full-time study only

-Those committed to careers and impact in leadership, security, and development

-Candidates who hold a master's or bachelor's degree (or equivalent professional experience)

-Candidates must be able to demonstrate values such as promoting African-led ideas and processes of change, independent thinking, integrity, pursuit of excellence, recognition of youth agency, and respect for diversity in all its forms. Candidates must have citizenship in an African country and hold valid travel documents prior to acceptance.

Application Requirements

The following documents are required before your application is considered complete: a fully completed application questionnaire on the online application system; a supporting statement of 500 to 750 words outlining why you want to join this programme, what unique contribution you would bring, and what change you envision contributing to in your community or area of work after the programme; and two letters of recommendation to be received directly from your referees by the deadline of 24 May 2026, 23:59 hrs EAT.

Note: For most students from the Global South, passing an English Language Proficiency Test is mandatory to gain unconditional acceptance to the MSc programme at King's College London.

How to Apply

Applicants will need to create an account on the King's website and complete all necessary steps until they submit their application successfully.

When prompted to select a programme on the King's application portal, choose Peace & Security Fellowship — do not select MSc in Global Leadership and Peacebuilding. In addition to applying through the King's system, applicants must make a separate application through the ALC-Nairobi portal for the fellowship programme.
