SDG Innovation Summit Malaysia 2026: Apply for a Fully or Partially Funded Seat in Kuala Lumpur

Young leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers across Africa now have a fresh international opportunity to add to their list: the SDG Innovation Summit Malaysia 2026 (SISM). Applications are open, and the summit is bringing together 100+ participants from around the world for four days of leadership, innovation, and networking in Kuala Lumpur.

What Is the SDG Innovation Summit Malaysia 2026?

SISM is an international youth summit organized by the Global Youth Network (GYN), a US-based organization that runs conferences in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This year's edition holds in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from November 19–22, 2026, under the theme "Innovative Ideas for Social Impact."

The summit will bring together students, graduates, entrepreneurs, researchers, professionals, and young leaders to take part in keynote sessions, leadership workshops, innovation labs, panel discussions, and cultural exchange activities. Participants will also compete for a $1,000 Seed Grant to support their own projects, whether the idea is still on paper or already running.

The programme is built around four focus areas:

• SDG 4 – Quality Education

• SDG 5 – Gender Equality

• SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

• SDG 13 – Climate Action

This builds on GYN's earlier summit, the FutureMinds Summit held in Bangkok, Thailand, which brought together over 70 young leaders.

Who Is It For?

The summit is open to applicants from all countries, including Nigeria and the rest of Africa. There is no restriction by state or nationality. You may be eligible if you are:

- Aged 17–50 years old

- A student, graduate, entrepreneur, researcher, professional, volunteer, or social change-maker at any career stage

- From any educational or professional background

- Passionate about leadership, innovation, and the SDGs

- Available to attend the summit physically in Kuala Lumpur from 19–22 November 2026

- No IELTS or TOEFL score is required, and you don't even need a passport at the point of application — a National ID or student ID can be used in place of passport details for now.

Funding Categories — Important Details

This is where applicants need to pay close attention, because SISM runs on a mixed funding model:

• 30 scholarship seats are available out of the 100 total spots — the top 15 applicants get a fully funded slot (covering round-trip airfare, twin-sharing accommodation, meals, visa fees, invitation letter, summit access, and more), while the next 15 get a partially funded slot (covers everything except airfare).

• The remaining seats are guaranteed participation options for those not selected for a scholarship, or who prefer a confirmed seat outright: Forum Access ($249) or a Self-Funded package ($449) with accommodation included.

• A standalone Invitation Letter for visa purposes is also available for $49.

• One thing to note transparently: there is an application fee of $18.50 to apply for the fully or partially funded scholarship categories. According to the organizers, this fee supports the review and selection process and does not guarantee selection. You can submit one application to be considered for both the fully funded and partially funded categories.

• As part of your application, you'll need to submit a 250–300 word personal statement explaining why you want to join the summit — this is your chance to show leadership experience and a genuine connection to the SDG focus areas above.

Application Deadline

The application deadline is October 10, 2026. Selected applicants will be notified by October 15, 2026, via email, with the final list also posted on GYN's Facebook and Instagram pages.

From there, you'll choose your category (Fully Funded, Partially Funded, Forum Access, or Self-Funded), complete the online form, pay the relevant fee, and submit.

A quick word of advice: with only 30 of the 100 seats being scholarship-funded, apply early and make your personal statement count. Tie your story clearly to one or more of the four SDG focus areas rather than speaking generally about "sustainability" — this is one of the clearest ways to stand out in a competitive pool.
