The Social Shifters Global Innovation Challenge 2026 is now open for applications, and it's one of the most comprehensive youth-led innovation competitions in the world. It offers grant funding awards of up to $15,000 USD, free founder support, and a gateway to paid work, fellowships, networking, and learning experiences — even beyond the competition itself.

Social Shifters is a non-profit, Scotland-registered charity (No. SCO51121) that exists to support the next generation of leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs — young people everywhere taking action on the social and environmental issues that matter most to them.  They partner with some of the world's leading businesses to amplify the reach and resources available to young founders.

What Is the Global Innovation Challenge?

The Global Innovation Challenge is more than just a grant competition. It is a platform designed to help young changemakers strengthen their leadership, increase visibility, and scale their impact globally

The programme supports initiatives related to poverty reduction, quality education, gender equality, climate action, health and well-being, clean energy, sustainable communities, responsible consumption, and partnerships for development.  (Funds for Companies) In short — if your work is making the world better, this challenge wants to back you.

Who Is It For?

To be eligible, your social startup must be:

100% Youth-Led — Founders must be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of submission and have clear decision-making authority over the project.

Impact Focused — Startups and projects must address a clearly defined social or environmental issue and must already be delivering some measurable social outputs and impact. 

There are no nationality requirements. Participants can be located anywhere in the world.  Nigerian and African founders are fully eligible to apply.

Your idea must also contribute to at least one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

What Do You Get?

Grant Funding — Multiple awards of up to $15,000 USD for genuinely youth-led, up-and-running projects and startups.

Free Founder Support — Free learning resources are available from the moment you register, alongside connection to a global community of young social leaders.  

Opportunities Gateway — As you progress, you'll unlock incremental access to opportunities including paid work, fellowships, networking, and learning experiences.  

2026 Timeline at a Glance

18th May — Early registration opens; access to the launch event

1st June — Submissions officially open

July — Get your submissions in

31st August — Final submission deadline (5pm UTC)

September–October — Submission scoring

October — Finalists announced + pitch coaching begins

November — Finals and pitching

December — Grant award winners announced
