The NGFP 2027 Fellowship Is Open. Apply Before June 26
The NGFP 2027 Fellowship just opened applications, and it might be one of the most underrated global opportunities available to young changemakers right now.
What Is the NGFP Fellowship?
The Next Generation Foresight Practitioners (NGFP) is an initiative by the School of International Futures (SOIF), designed to support and empower the next generation of changemakers using futures and foresight as a tool to reimagine and co-create more equitable and inclusive futures globally.
In simpler terms: it's a global programme that trains and funds people who are serious about thinking long-term — about climate, technology, democracy, health, and other challenges that will define the next generation.
The fellowship begins with a one-year journey of project support, collaboration, and learning in community. Think of it as a launchpad — not just a certificate.
Who Is It For?
This is not just for academics or researchers. The NGFP Fellowship is open to individuals and teams who are beginning their journey in futures and foresight. Eligible applicants must be aged between 18 and 35 or, if older, have less than one year of experience in the field.
NGFP particularly encourages those based in or connected to Asia, Africa, MENA, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Pacific Islands, and the Balkans.
If you're reading this from Nigeria or anywhere else in Africa — this is explicitly for people like you.
The ideal candidate is someone who is committed to community and network building, working on a brave, pioneering, futures-focused project idea for lasting change at the systems level, and a collaborative lifelong learner with a long-term vision for impact of at least 10 years ahead.
You don't need a PhD. You need a clear idea and the courage to pursue it.
What Areas Does It Focus On?
NGFP is particularly enthusiastic about applications from those working on what they call Foresight Transformation Missions: Climate & Just Transitions, Democracy & Sustainable Development, Emerging Technologies, Futures Methods From Around the World & Indigenous Futures, Health, Intergenerational Fairness, Nuclear Security & Peacebuilding, and Rural Futures.
If your work or passion touches any of these areas — whether it's food security in your community, digital futures for young Africans, or reshaping how your region handles health challenges — this is your space.
What Do You Get?
This is where it gets very interesting. During the first year, fellows receive project mentorship, training, and access to a global peer network — alongside a USD $1,000 kick-starter fund and the opportunity to win a USD $10,000 growth prize. (Opportunitiesforeveryone)
Beyond the money, you also get:
Bi-weekly news and opportunity emails including information about grants, the opportunity to be part of regional or thematic hubs, and participation in relevant futures and foresight events and projects.
And even if you don't make the final 25, NGFP invites all top applicants to become part of the NGFP Sensing Network — a global network of 900+ practitioners, of which 188 are fellows.
So applying is never a wasted effort.
How Competitive Is It?
Fellows are selected by a panel of judges for the excellent quality of their applications. Applicants are asked to demonstrate an innovative approach and a clear theory of change for the creation of alternative and better futures.
The fellowship is competitive, with only 25 spaces in each annual cohort. But 25 spots is still 25 real opportunities — and they are actively looking for voices from the Global South.
What's the Deadline?
Applications must be submitted by 23:59 GMT+1 on 26 June 2026.
That gives you roughly two months — enough time to craft a strong application, but not enough to procrastinate.
You can start your application and find Q&A sessions at nextgenforesight.org
Questions? Reach the team at fellowship@nextgenforesight.org.
The world doesn't lack problems. What it lacks are people who think carefully and boldly about the future. If you've been sitting on a project idea, a community challenge you want to solve, or a vision for how things could be different 10 or 20 years from now — this fellowship was built for you. Apply before June 26.
